Products
BACK-TRACK helps employees and employers. Employees have a reduced risk of injury and this is good business for employers.
BACK-TRACK includes a series of products, all measuring exposure to the most common back injury risk factor - repetive and excessive forward flexion. Training does not change this behaviour, but BACK-TRACK does!
Our proactive range of products helps employees modify their behaviour and adopt good manual handling techniques, through immediate intervention (vibrate alert) and positive reinforcement (via 1:1s with line supervisors reviewing collected data and risk profile).
Our rehabilitation product, BACK-TRACK Back-To-Work, incorporates the forward flexion functions, but also includes an activity (or inactivity) function - this being vital in effective rehabilitation of a back injury.
Proactive Back Injury Prevention
BACK-TRACK Pro is designed for those at elevated risk, logistics, healthcare, warehousing, construction, facilities. BACK-TRACKs are permanently assigned to users and their colllected data is reviewed monthly. Those identified at being at elevated risk, ie upper 5th percentile for exposure to risk factors, have a 1:1 review with their supervisor and good practice messages are reinforced.
Next month, the upper 5th percentile review process takes place. Organisational change starts to occur quickly.
BACK-TRACK Pro-Intro is designed for everyone, not just those identified as being in occupations of higher risk. BACK-TRACKs are assigned to users and depending on the organisation, worn for a few weeks, or a few months. 1:1 feedback takes place regularly (ideally weekly if the device is only to be worn for a very short period). Some organisations are introducing a BACK-TRACK competency certificate for users. Pro-Intro is also being used for new recruits and worn for an induction period. This again reinforces good H&S messages from the outset. After a month or two and having reviewed the collected risk data with their supervisor, if satisfactory, the device is either passed on or if not, retained for a further period and reviewed again a few weeks later.
BACK-TRACK Pro-MH. Manual handling training can be repetitive for those exposed to it on an annual basis. Also, it is widely accepted as being of little benefit. Generally, individuals have the knowledge to use good manual handling techniques, but typically they do not. We consider this to be because good technique is difficult to adopt (using under used leg muscles) and requires a change in behaviour. Both of these take time, however by using BACK-TRACK Pro-MH, an individual can experience the vibrate alert function when they use poor technique during the training class. This alert is telling them they are potentially causing damage to their backs. The classes tend to be more engaging and useful with BACK-TRACK Pro-MH.
Rehabilitation
BACK-TRACK Back-To-Work allows healthcare professionals to monitor an individuals exposure to excessive forward flexion and inactivity. The BACK-TRACK will have appropriate thresholds and if these are crossed, the device will alert the user. Because the collected risk data is uploaded to the web, it can be reviewed via any web browser, allowing the OH advisor to be remote from the user and located anywhere in the country. A periodic phone call and conversation about missed activity targets etc, quickly highlight to the injured user that they may be slowing the rehabilitation process. User feedback is very positive, see BTW Case Study.
